Onigashima or Oninoshima- Regardless of how you say it, Setsubun (the bean throwing festival and ceremony) inspired the Hasekko in their play! On the day before, Hasekko participated in the bean throwing ceremony which is said to ban demons from a dwelling and welcome in good luck.
鬼ヶ島とか鬼の島とか、節分（豆をまく行事）の行事のおかげで、はせっこの遊びが広がりました！
この前の日、はせっこたちは豆まきをしました。
鬼を家から追い出して、福を呼びこむ節分行事です。
　　 One group of children insisted that their mud structured water canals and bridge system be called Oni-ga-shima. First they began by sculpting the sand and digging canals individually. この子たちは、自分たちのつくったドロドロの川と橋のせかいを「鬼ヶ島」だと言っています。 はじめは、それぞれが土でかたちをつくり、川を掘っていました。 　　 Then, together they decided to add water several times to test the path and capacity of the canals. After each water test, they discussed what to do next until they were satisfied with the results. そのうち子どもたちは連れ立って、どのくらいで溢れるかを試そうと、水の通りみちに何度か水を入れては様子を見ることにしたようでした。 溢れだすまでの間、水を入れては「次はどうしよう？」と話しあっていました。 　　 Another group of children made a tower resembling Enoshima Tower out of cardboard boxes and tape. One girl removed a saw carefully from its cover, and several children together constructed a fabric hammock for the demons to nap on. This second group, the cardboard team, was very clear that their island was called Oni-no-shima, perhaps similar to Enoshima? 他のグループの子どもたちは、段ボール箱やテープを使って、江ノ島のシーキャンドルのようなタワーをつくっていました。 女の子がそ〜っと段ボールノコギリをケースから出しています。 何人かで鬼がお昼寝をするためのハンモックをつくりました。段ボールで遊んでいる子たちは、ハッキリと「鬼の島」と言っていましたよ。「江ノ島」の響きを真似て名前をつけたのかな？

２月５日（火） Hasekko bake!　〜はせっこが焼いちゃった！

　　
All around the garden, Hasekko were using kitchen tools to make cakes, chocolate, and other baked goods. One Hasekko even opened her own pancake restaurant with a proper kitchen just in time for Valentine's Day! How sweet!
はせっこたちは家で不要になった台所用品を使って、園庭のそこら中で、ケーキやチョコレート、焼き菓子などをつくっています。 バレンタインデーが近いので、うってつけのキッチンをこしらえて、パンケーキのレストランを開いている子もいましたよ。なんてステキなの！
　　　　　

２月８日（金）　The Restaurant Game: Let's Play Together Hase Style!　〜レストランごっこ：はせっこスタイルで一緒に遊びましょう！

　　 In preparation for 2013 Hasekko to come for a visit, all of the classes planned fun activities! The moon class designed a sushi and pizza restaurant game. They proudly prepared their food, menu and uniforms, as well as the special ovens they made to cook the pizza! 来年度入園する子が遊びにくる「一日入園」の日が近づきました！やってくる子たちにどうやって楽しんでもらおうか。クラスごとに相談しました。 つきぐみでは、お寿司とピザのレストランごっこを考え中！何をだすかを考え、メニューを準備し、制服を準備し、ピザを焼く特製オーブンまでつくっちゃって得意げです。 The Hasseko on the far right practiced taking the pizza out of the oven which was located below one of the sushi counters. お寿司のカウンターの下にピザ用オーブンを設置して、果たしてうまく出せるのでしょうか。最後は、取り出す練習にも余念がないはせっこの写真です。
