December is always a special month for birthday celebrations at Hase Yochien!
Those born in December celebrate their special days
on the last Wednesday of the calendar year
with their classmates of the same age!
Since Haseko are usually in mixed age classes,
this transition time is very special and treasured.
The format of the special birthday ritual remains the same as every month, however!
The day begins with the honored children
individually placing flowers in a vase one by one for Nono-Sama.
長谷幼稚園の１２月のお誕生会は、いつも特別。
冬休み前最後の水曜日、
１２月生まれの子は同い年のクラスメートと誕生日を祝います。
いつもは異年齢一緒のクラスなので、
年齢別に過ごすこの時期はとても特別で貴重なんです。
だけど、お誕生会の形式はその他の月と同じ。
まずは、誕生日の子どもが、
ののさまにひとりずつお花を供えていきます。
MOM & ME IN THE SPOTLIGHT
注目を浴びるお母さんとわたし／ぼく
Next, each birthday child stands with his or her mother
in a line at the front of the room.
Mothers take turns sharing with everyone
what makes her child special
and answering interview questions from the class leader.
When the interviews are done,
children and mothers sit excitedly together
for the presentation of the handmade birthday cards!
Class leaders decided on both a presentation skit
and an image for each child based on their personalities
in connection with the thematic elements of recent creative yochien activities.
In the blue class’s recent Hase World presentations,
the children developed a narrative around the concept of an acorn’s daily adventures!
次に、お母さんと一緒に、みんなの前に並んで立ちます。
お母さんたちは順番に、
我が子のどんなところがすごいかなど、
保育者からの質問に答えていきます。
インタビューが終わると、
子どももお母さんもウキウキしながら着席します。
手作りのバースデーカードをもらう時が来ました。
保育者は、ちょっとしたお芝居を作り、
それぞれの子の性格を踏まえたキャラクターを決めておきました。
最近行われた「はせの世界」につながる内容で、
あおの子（５歳児）の場合は、
どんぐり探検隊の話がベースになりました。
THE CARDMAKERS
バースデーカードの作り手たち
One leader acts out the part of the characters
and delivers the gorgeous, highly detailed and fun cards
one by one to the other leader,
who presents them to the delighted birthday children individually!
The interaction between the two leaders made the presentation truly memorable.
保育者の１人が、決めておいたキャラクターに扮し、
もう１人の保育者にカードを渡します。
その保育者が、今度は子どもにカードを渡します。
このような保育者同士の連携が、
カードの贈呈を思い出深いものにしてくれます。
THE PLOT
筋書き
"Goshu, goshu, goshu… Scrub, scrub, scrub!”
One daily ritual is taking a bath with friends.
The characters that joined the acorn in the bath and then at the party
were a shark, a peacock, a deep sea angler fish, the wind and Mr. Bellybutton!
「ごしごしごし… ごしごしごし！」
どんぐり探検隊では、
どんぐりが友だちとお風呂に入ります。
ここでお風呂に入ってきたのは、
さめ、くじゃく、ちょうちんあんこう、風、そしておへそでした。
From sitting in rapt attention,
the class erupts into actively calling to the characters
to come out and play with the first class leader.
”detekoi, detekoi, dokokarademo detekoi!”
which translates roughly, “Come out, come out, wherever you are!”
In response, the second class leader popped up and delivered the card in character.
じっと座っていた子どもたちが、
キャラクターたちに
姿を現して保育者と遊ぶように呼びかけました。
「出てこい、出てこい、どこからでも出てこい！」
すると、キャラクターになりきった
もう１人の保育者が飛び出して来て、
カードを渡すのでした。

Each card is unique and creative,
including a picture of the child, and messages from their mother and class leader.
It is obvious how much the birthday children love their cards!
The next part of the birthday morning is always the class’s gift to the birthday children a thematic play event! Today was a kind of hide and seek.
The class painted beautiful murals
and then the characters hid behind them,
popping out to be found when it was their turn.
The birthday character groups who played hide and seek
were Animals, Candy, Ocean and Bellybuttons!
どのカードもユニークでクリエイティブで、
その子どもの絵が描かれています。
母親と保育者からのメッセージも綴られています。
もちろん、もらった子どもたちは大喜び。
誕生会ではカード贈呈のあと必ず、
遊びのプレゼントをします。
この日はかくれんぼのようなものをしました。
みんなで描いた大判の絵の中にさまざまな楽器が隠れていて、
呼ばれたら外に飛び出してくるのです。
隠れていたのは、動物、お菓子、海、
そしておへその楽器でした。
