特別な１日...　いよいよ夏休み！

Although it began as ordinarily as every other day at yochien, this day was special.  It was the last day of yochien before the summer holidays.  In the final hours prior to every holiday, activities differ because Hasekko prepare their classrooms for the emptiness of the weeks to come.  They bid farewell to their class pets and return them to Nono Sama's House, browse the library one last time and tidy their classrooms, removing all personal belongings from their lockers to carry home over the last days before break.
いつもと同じように始まりましたが、この日は特別な日でした。
夏休み前の最後の登園日だったのです。
長いお休みの前、長谷っ子はいつも何週間かお部屋を空にするための支度をします。
クラスで飼っている生き物に別れを告げ、ののさまのおうち（光則寺）に返します。絵本の部屋を最後にざっと見て回ります。部屋を片付け、持ち物はすべてロッカーから出して、家に持ち帰るのです。

The day prior to summer break is unusual compared to the rest because every year a sleepover party begins the next afternoon!  The Yellow Year Students, or "ki-iro-no-ko" as they are called, are third year children who will enter elementary school in the spring. One of the many rituals that mark their growing process in their final year is staying overnight at yochien:  bringing, buying and preparing ingredients, cooking dinner, cleaning up, bathing and finally sleeping together with their friends before having breakfast and greeting their mothers the next morning to return home.  For most, this is their first overnight school event with their friends!
他と比べると、夏休みの前は独特です。毎年、翌日の午後からお泊まり会が開催されるからです。
主役は"きいろの子"、来春小学生になる最年長の子どもたちです。幼稚園最後の１年間、子どもたちの成長がうかがえるイベントがたくさんありますが、その１つが、このお泊まり会です。子どもたちは、夕飯の材料を運び、買い、下ごしらえし、料理します。片付けし、お風呂に入り、最後には友だちと一緒に眠ります。朝が来たら、ご飯を食べ、迎えのお母さんたちにあいさつして、家に帰ります。
ほとんどの子にとって、これが初めてのお泊まりイベントとなります。

Good Morning, Hase Yochien!
おはよう、長谷幼稚園！

The last day begins for Hasekko with the attendance card stamping ritual.  Over time, with consistent assistance from their moms and friends, children learned to find the correct place on their stamp card every morning on their own.
休み前最後の日もやはり、出席カードにスタンプを押すところから始まります。
長い間、お母さんや友だちから助け舟を出してもらいながら、子どもたちはやがて正しい位置に独りでスタンプを押せるようになります。

　　　　　
On this bright morning, the library room is flooded with sunlight, and one child sits at the reading table focused intently on a book about dinosaurs which he has selected himself from the shelves, while another child reshelves the books he had chosen.  Because the library was completely open to them, Hasekko learned many skills naturally- sorting, reading, studying pictures, tidying up and keeping a space clear for everyone to share.  It was also a place of calm and quiet - a place for Hasekko to go when they wanted space to explore new things and think.
快晴の朝、絵本の部屋は光にあふれています。１人の子が座って、棚から選んで来た恐竜の絵本に集中しています。もう１人の子は、本を棚に戻しています。
絵本の部屋が子どもたちに完全に解放されているため、長谷っ子はさまざまなスキルを自然と身につけます。仕分けること、読むこと、絵を観察すること、きれいにすること、他のみんなのためにスペースをあけること。
ここは心静かに過ごす場所でもあります。長谷っ子は何か新しいことを知りたい時、考えたい時に絵本の部屋に行くのです。


Climbing trees is another attractive activity for children who quickly complete their arriving rituals, stamping their attendance cards, putting away their bags and materials, and hanging their hats and water bottles on the classroom pegs.  Children climbed trees both alone and in groups.
木登りも人気です。登園して、出席カードにスタンプを押し、バッグや持ち物をしまい、帽子と水筒をフックにひっかけたらすぐに始めます。
独りでも登るし、グループでも登ります。

　　　　　
Specific to this day before break, the children collect tadpoles from the classrooms to take back to Nono Sama's House, as the children call Kosokuji Temple. They cross the garden from the classroom, gathering eagerly at the gate to begin their walk to Kosokuji.
夏休み前に特有なのは、子どもたちがお部屋で飼っていたオタマジャクシを集め、子どもたちが"ののさまのおうち"と呼ぶ、光則寺に返しに行くことです。
部屋を出て園庭を横切り、門のところで集まって、光則寺まで歩き始めます。

The Sleepover: Preparing for the Night
お泊まり会：その日に備えて

This morning, third year ki-iro-no-ko are busy meeting to discuss and prepare for their sleepover. The morning meeting was an ebb and flow of energy- quiet and listening bursting into a commotion of activity and back again.
この朝、きいろの子は集まって、お泊まり会の相談や準備をしました。みんなのエネルギーは満ちたり引いたり...。
静かに話を聞いていると思ったら、大騒ぎになり、そしてまた静かになるといった具合でした。

The Walk: Saying Goodbye to their Tadpole Friends
お寺まで歩こう：オタマジャクシにさようなら
　　　　　


On their own for the morning, first and second year Hasekko, aka-no-ko and ao-no-ko,who want to go for a walk line up at the gate. They take the tadpoles home to the lotus flower pots housed in Kosokuji's beautiful garden.  They walk together and watch with interest as a Hase teacher returns the tadpoles to the lotus pots.  They took turns saying goodbye to the tadpoles and then returned together to the yochien garden.
きいろの子がいない中、あか（最年少）とあお（真ん中）のお散歩に行きたい子どもたちが門のところに並んでいます。
光則寺の美しい庭にある蓮の花の鉢に、オタマジャクシを返しに行くのです。
お寺までみんなで歩くと、保育者が鉢にオタマジャクシを返す様子を興味津々の表情で見守ります。
順番にオタマジャクシにさようならを言い、また一緒に園まで戻ります。

while their yellow year big brothers and sisters prepare for their sleepover the next day by cleaning the tables with wet towels and sweeping up the space where they will have dinner. Emotions were high on the last day, punctuated by both tears and excited laughter throughout the morning!
きいろのお兄ちゃんお姉ちゃんたちは、翌日のお泊まり会の準備。濡れたタオルでテーブルをふき、夕飯を食べるエリアの掃き掃除をします。
最終日でテンションは高く、泣いたり、大笑いしたりする声が朝中ずっと響いていました。
